  • Volkswagen AG subsidiary TRATON Group – one of the large commercial truck manufacturers – made headlines recently with its push into autonomous trucking.
  • In late Sep 2019, it unveiled and conducted a live demo of Scania’s new autonomous AXL concept truck – a vehicle designed to be fully autonomous (Level 5) without a driver’s cab.
  • TRATON also announced it would be conducting completely driverless large-scale tests of its autonomous MAN trucks at the city port in Hamburg, Germany.
  • The company plans to invest $2.2B into R&D for autonomous, networked vehicles, and digital logistics services over the next 5 years.
